Monday

. . . Change of plan, I did not go to Tigard today. Terri had to run an errand for her sister so I  will drive down tomorrow and help her clear her apartment so the landlord can take  possession. She will be leaving Thursday to spend part of the winter in Hawaii. My hope is that she will join me in Mexico later but that is still up in the air. The sun was kind enough to pop out for a while today and I decided to get in a forty minute walk. Bowling would have been more fun but  walk is cheaper and takes no gasoline. I have to save my money for Mazatlan. I was told I will need a ton or two. This evening I plan on watching my favorite Monday night commercials and being in bed by 9:30. I will be leaving here about 9am for the drive to Tigard.

Sunday

. . I had a good day at the bowling alley; 159-135-170-111-163-148- turned out to be a 148 average, now I have to find a way to relax and do as well when league bowling. Today was the day my lottery ticket was due to be cashed in too. I forgot all about it but if someone from the bowling alley ever won any money they would know about it right away and tell me about it. I am the only one who buys ten draws ahead. That tells me I am not a winner, so I will wait until Thursday to turn in the ticket and buy another one. I am planning on popcorn and a movie tonight but I am going to post this first. There were a few raindrops around here today but not while I had the car out so it will still be clean when I drive to Tigard tomorrow and help Terri move the remaining stuff out of her place. I did get in about a twenty minute walk today, slowly getting back into the habit.

Saturday

. . . . I found my lost credit card but only after calling the company and reporting it lost. I will destroy it and wait for the new one to arrive. I spent some time building a pot of chili this morning. It does not smell like the chili I am trying to make but I am sure it will be edible.
I did break down later in the day and try it: not too bad! I will change the recipe next time though. I am using Caren’s recipe and it has a couple of ‘OR’s in. So next time I will use different ingredients. Doggie and I went walking this afternoon, it was a very nice day, the sky was all blue and the sun was warming things up to a comfortable temperature. Love it!

Friday

. . . . Dang it! I lost my brand new Platinum Credit Card sometime yesterday. The only thing I bought with it was the Ticket to Mazatlan before it came up missing. I drove to Tigard this afternoon to take Terri to lunch and when I stopped to buy gasoline I discovered I did not have the card. I ended up putting the purchase on my Debit card. I hate when that happens. I phoned the 800 number when I got home and a new card will be issued. That certainly is a stupid thing to do and to add fuel the  fire I had lost the previous card only a few months ago. Twice in a short time, I must be slipping, folks. That is a joke, of course, I hope! I was to have gone to Tigard Saturday but Terri’s Sister was nice enough to call a moving company Thursday to move her stuff from the apartment to the storage unit because there was too much fear of rain on Saturday. The two men from the storage company had the move completed and left within 90 minutes. That is the way to move!  . . . Have a very rich Sister!. . .  Terri did leave the TV in the Apartment so she could watch TV for the next three days, sitting on the floor! I will go down Monday and help her deliver that to storage. It is a big item but it will sit in the trunk of the car for the short trip, I had a fun drive home, it was raining cats and dogs but I made the 72 miles in about 72 minutes. Got home in time to only miss the first two minutes of O’Reilly. I clicked over to the ball game when O’Reilly went off and discovered that the Rangers lost. Boooooo!

Thursday

My day was fine, it was cold out this morning but not freezing. I am sure the first frost is going to arrive very soon though. I could feel it in the air when I left at 11:30 to go bowling. That part of the day did not turn out so well: 132-136-112. A 126 average is not a good thing but I made up for it by stopping by the market on the way home and buying a half gallon of ice cream. I also was very lucky to find fresh peaches on sale for 88c per pound. Not bad, I thought. I also stopped by the Money Gram Store and sent $100.00 to the lady in Mazatlan for a deposit on my accommodations. I now have the airline tickets and I know where I will be! I am sorry I will have to suffer through so much cold weather before January 16th arrives so I can get down there and sit on the beach for a couple of months. Ron had asked me how I was planning on getting to the airport and I answered by telling him he was going to take me. He laughed a very strange laugh. Catching the plane down there won't be so bad, 8AM. getting back will be the tough one. I will arrive at 11:29 PM. Ron always gets up really early, He will get home just in time to get up! Well, the Ball game is on so I will watch that and have some ice cream and Peaches before going to bed. My favorite Thursday night commercials are on tonight too. It has been a good day!

Wednesday

Wednesday. . . . I did get out to the market today. I purchased some ‘stir fry’ veggies and thawed out some sirloin steak. I cut the steak into small chunks and cooked it up with mushrooms. The chopped veggies and meat was then loaded into several ‘baggies’ and put in the freezer. I had enough left over to have dinner today and again tomorrow. I phoned Billy tonight, he seems to be doing just as fine as could be expected considering his physical situation. Since the Ball game was rained out I watched some commercials for a while after O’Reilly ended then headed to bed. I have reached the end of ‘Crime and Punishment’; it ended very differently than I had remembered from before. I had it mixed up with another book I’m sure. It was nice to have a ‘surprise ending’! I have not decided which one of a dozen unread books I have on hand to read next. I’ll keep you posted, I realize how important it is to you all! LOL

Tuesday

This was a good day after the morning cold fog burned off. I didn’t accomplish a darn thing except read myself closer to the end of ‘Crime and Punishment’ It is a lot different than I remember from my first reading so many years ago. I am now out of stir fry ingredients and the last two frozen containers of chili are thawing so It looks like another trip to the market is on the agenda after bowling on Thursday. The French Toast is also getting low so I best cook up some more of that for freezing. Things to do, things to do. My friend in Mazatlan, Natalia is sending me the information I need to get the ball rolling in that direction. I hope all works out for me so I can spend the winter at the beach down there! Not that I would be at the beach, simply being where the sun shines nice and warm every day would be great.

Monday

My day turned out to be rain free but I suffered a little rain on my bowling scores. Verda had company coming so she was unable to make it, I scored 114-142-135-151-127-126- which created a average of 132 for 6 lines. I decided to go to Safeway and buy some more ice cream to bury my sorrows. While there Ron found me and we visited for about 30 minutes. He had brought Ashton into town for a doctor visit. While driving out of Longview on my way to the freeway I noticed that 'whistle' had returned to the usual engine noise so I made the extra trip to R&R Motors
so they could take a look. Naturally the noise had disappeared. He did put his stethoscope on various moving parts to determine if it might be a bearing going bad but was unable to find any trouble at all. I got home and put the ice cream away, had dinner and watched O'Reilly. I wrote this at about 7PM and plan on staying up for my Monday night commercials.

Sunday

There was no rain on the radar picture this morning and the fog had rolled in so I felt good about the coming day. I guessed since the fog was in the day would turn out to be at least partly clear. I was fooled this time. I left the house before noon to go bowling and found after getting there they had rented out to a gang of people who were arriving 30 minutes later. I decided to come home and perhaps try again tomorrow. On the way home I stopped and purchased a small bottle of brake fluid and added that to my car. The little red light had been complaining for two weeks so I thought I would solve that problem. I got home about 12:45 and was pleased to notice that I made the entire outing without getting into raindrops! Will wonders never cease?. . . .i watched the end of the Nascar race today, it was really exciting with lots of fender benders and lead changes. When the race ended I forced myself to do a  40 minute walk. I am trying hard to make that a habit but it is not too easy to do. Happily it did not rain during the day today. It sure looked like it wanted to though!

Saturday

I decided to stay inside today, there was no break in the weather that I could imagine and no pressing need to get out for any reason. I did at least get in a 40 minute walk though, I know I have to do that each day I can. Some days it really is not easy to talk myself into it! Did some reading, fell asleep, ate too much and turned on the World Series. A very quiet day.

Friday

. I left the house at 9:45 and drove to Tigard to spend the afternoon with Terri. We had a two hour lunch before delivering some things to Salvation Army. We then stopped by a storage center where we inspected a 12X20 locker for her to store her things in while she is in Hawaii. After we got back to her place we visited for about an hour before I left for home. The drive home was uneventful except for some heavy rains at times. Luckily we had no rain while we were out doing our running around. I was home in time to catch O’Reilly at 8PM then posted this before hitting the hay.

Thursday

My bowling was 123-145-154, that created an average of 140. Not too bad but I will do better! I forgot to turn on the World Series until the 8th inning. When the Texas bunch jumped ahead I switched over to The Big Bang Theory. I am happy that Texas won, that ties it all up. Perhaps I will watch it again tomorrow, if I get home early enough. I’m going to see Terri and help her decide what size storage locker she needs for the stuff she is keeping.

Wednesday

.When I got up this morning I checked my radar picture and it did show rain drops moving in the Portland direction. I had sunlight streaming in over the top of Roy's house at the time. I thought I might get in some fishing later on because of the nice weather but the clouds and cool breeze talked me out of it. I was able to walk almost two miles though so I feel much better about the day. I am still reading 'Crime and Punishment' and getting much more out of it than I did the first time [several years ago]. ChiChi and I never did see rain drops today but have it on good authority that it will be with us by the time Bowling league rolls around tomorrow.

Tuesday

. . The weather was really great today. . . .I took Ron to lunch to celebrate his Birthday. We enjoyed the sunshine during our drive to The Sizzler and back. I was feeling tooo fat and lazy by the time I got home to go fishing but this would have been a good day for it. I enjoyed a quiet afternoon of rest and relaxation.

Monday, October 17, 2011

Monday

. I guess you might say today began at 3AM. I found myself wide awake and reading ‘Crime and Punishment’. I had gone to sleep at about 10 but the naps I had had yesterday were too much for me. After reading for half an hour I started feeling hungry enough to crawl out of bed and scramble a couple of eggs and toast some sourdough bread. After finishing that off along with a large glass of milk I went back to bed and slept like a baby until 7:30. I got myself caught up with my computer duties and had breakfast by 9am. About noon I coaxed [not hard to do] ChiChi into the car for a ride over to the Teigen house. Ron was keeping a doctor appointment and Shelton was in school so I visited with Caren, Colt and the baby for about an hour. Caren sent me home with some clam chowder she had made, I had that for lunch. Delicious, and I will be able to get three bowls out of the amount  she gave me.
The sun was shining brightly and the river was inviting but I was just too lazy to go to the fishing hole. I decided to read and get fat this afternoon. It was really nice to look out the window and see the sun shining so beautifully on the lawn around my place. I am not looking forward to the snow that is coming this winter. The building I am in has a slope up before it drops down to the street and if there is more than 6 inches of snow on the ground I doubt I would be able to make it up the slope. But that is OK, it is still a great place to live.

Sunday

. . . I had a good day bowling. . . 123-155-166-125-156-139-equals about a 144 average. Things are looking up! I know I can do better, Hope Hope. I stopped by Safeway and picked up a few bricks of ice cream and also got my annual flu shot. I am set for the winter! Now if only I can find a way to get to the sunshine sooner than waiting around here until June!
I did not see the sunshine today until I left the bowling alley. It was sunny, dry and sort of cool. Two out of three is not bad around here. Looks like the sun may remain for a couple more days too! Sounds good to me. I watched a movie called Gigantic this evening. It was supposed to be a comedy but I would have listed it as Sweet more than comedy. The popcorn was good too. I had just enough, I forgot to buy more today at the market.

Saturday

I was able to talk myself into going to the river this afternoon, it was much cooler than the thermometer said because there was a little wind blowing. I forced myself to stay for an hour and a half but caught no fish. I did finish Dostoevsky’s IDIOT while I was there. ChiChi had a good time running around and I was expecting Mels dog Tipper to come down and join us but that never happened. I have been most fortunate to find a fella in Mazatlan who has a tour business down there. It is called Mazatlan Van Man Tours. He is looking for accommodations I might like  for a couple of months. His name is Ricardo but that is all I know about him at the moment. He has lived in the US in the past and his English is excellent; I need that. He has become a reader of my blog so I expect he will find my plug for his tour business this evening.
I sat in front of commercials until the NASCAR race ended then gave ChiChi his nightly treat before going to bed.

Friday

.  ChiChi and I drove to the bank today to make a deposit. He was happy to get out of the house and the lady at the drive up window gave him a doggie biscuit. The river looked inviting [for fishing] but I was able to ignore the offer. It was nice to get the car home and in the garage without being rained on. That is rare around here this time of year. . .

Thursday

. I slept late and had to rush out of here to get to the Court House. I had attempted to phone for instructions when I got home last night but they were not yet posted and this morning I was so late [I woke up at 7:30] I didn't even think of calling to see if the instructions were available. As my luck would have it the parking lot was empty when I arrived so I knew I was not expected to be there. The instructions had been posted a few hours before and they were for me to phone in again this evening for further instructions. I was home about 8:15 and had breakfast. I left the house about 10:30 to get my haircut. By 11:20 I was at the hospital checking in for my Protime test. It was a bit high so I was told to not take my Warfarin dose this evening. By noon I was at the bowling alley ordering a hamburger with fries. I was getting hungry and I am well aware of what happens to my bowling scores when I have low blood sugar. I was happy enough with my first two games of 153 and 159 but by the time the third game rolled around I dropped to 119. Darn it! That still worked out to a 144 average. I guess I shant complain too much. I arrived back at the house at 3PM and turned on the washing machine. It has been full for several days [it also acts as my hamper] but I have not had time to take care of it. I have to phone the Court House Jury Information number later tonight to find if I have to be available Friday morning. I suppose I will be asked to come in. Another trial starts Monday, I was told by one of the jurors I talked to this morning. This evening I will watch my Thursday night commercials for a while and see how long they hold my attention. I have been lucky with my presently clean car, it was not rained on today
Nothing much going on around here. Things are quiet and peaceful, can't beat that!

Wednesday

The first thing I did today was to publish my pictures through September and post them to YouTube. Check it out at the link below. I knew I was going to see Terri today but until I was having breakfast and the sun was shining through the window did I decide to wash the car. The weather report looked good, no rain on the radar so I felt safe. It was cool though, there is the tiniest little nip in the air. Stupid winter is coming, darn it!. . . . I cleaned up the kitchen and was out of the house about 9:45. There were clouds in the sky; except for that it was a very nice day for a drive to Tigard. We had lunch before delivering some things to Salvation Army. We then stopped at Ava’s in Beaverton for a dessert and sat outside in the cool until it got too cool. I was home again by 9pm.

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Tuesday

We had our share of rain today. It didn't get in the way of my bowling though. It was not my plan to go bowling but after the luncheon with the guys from '52' I decided to stop by the bowling alley before going home.I started off well enough but after a while the tireds started to sit in. 164-171-114-120-123-148=140 average. That is better than my league average but not by a lot. After leaving there I went to the Post Office to mail the package to Eva and Pepik. It took the largest box the Post Office had to hold the two Mexican Sombreros but they went uncrushed. . . . I had run out of peaches to go with my ice cream so I stopped by the market only to find they have run out of peaches. I bought two cantaloupes instead. That goes well with ice cream too. This truly was a rainy day but the temperature is holding up quit well so there is not a lot to complain about.

Monday

I was lucky to have awakened at 6:30 this morning. I had to be at the court house by 8AM to join in with the Jury Duty crowd that had gathered. I was called to be one of the chosen but during jury selection the judge got an emergency phone call concerning the case and after about 30 minutes of consultation with the lawyers declared a mistrial. I was home by 11AM. I now have to phone in Wednesday night to find if I will be needed Thursday morning.. . After arriving home and eating some lunch I drove to the post office to find a box that Pepik's Sombreros would fit in for shipment to Prague. The Post Office was closed because of something Columbus did many years ago. Just my luck. . . .I stopped by the market for bananas and grapes then came home for the day. It looked like there were a few fishermen out on the water today, the color was good and I am sure fish are in there but I could not talk myself into sitting on the bank today. I did get sprinkled on several times while out and that dampened my fishing spirit considerably. This evening I will watch my favorite commercials until they bore me to death then I’ll go to bed.

Sunday

I drove into town today to try my bowling skills and ended up doing fair. 149-129-157-133-139-156- I felt good about coming back with a 156 for my final game. I could tell I was getting tired so I really paid attention to what I was doing and it helped a lot. That worked out to a 144 average for the day. That is a bit better than my summer league average. Now I have to remember how I did it so I can repeat on Thursday!. . . I stopped by The Will today to see what they had that I could not live without. I almost bought a book but changed my mind. Also stopped by the Dollar Store to see what they had and again almost bought a book. I did purchase some mouth wash on my way out the door. I was home by 2:30 and warmed up some of Terri's Famous Soup for lunch. That will hold me till this evening when I plan on enjoying popcorn and a commercial free movie via 'On Demand'. I felt very lucky today because although rain was threatening all the time I was out nary a drop fell on my little pointed head. Tonight I will phone the Court House computer and see if I am expected to report for jury duty tomorrow. That 3 week trial coming up would be interesting, it has been in the works since last summer. I will let you know how it goes!

Saturday

.  Eva and Pepik contacted me on Skype this morning, it was a bright sunny evening over there and the picture on the screen was almost H.D. It was a bit discerning when they went off line a couple of times though. The Czech Republic still has a way to go trying to keep their people on line. My plan was to take Ron to lunch today in honor of his Birthday but he was not able to make it so that will be put off till later..  . . .I spent part of the day watching NASCAR and another part reading. It turned out to be a really lazy day. I did get a good meal out of the pot of soup Terri sent me home with last night. There is enough left for at least three more meals, can’t beat that!

Friday

Friday. . . I met Terri for lunch today and we spent most of the day in the restaurant getting re-acquainted after a week of non contact. We were at Home Style Buffet in Tigard. I expected we would get thrown out after lunch and before the dinner hour but that never happened. She is planning on being in Hawaii some time this winter and I am looking for sunshine somewhere that is pocketbook possible. Perhaps we can bring both plans together. I never heard back from my lady friend in Mazatlan and am becoming a bit disappointed. Patience, patience. I arrived home around 9 PM and found that ChiChi had not eaten a thing since I had left. I stirred his food bowl with a fork and he dived in. Or is it dove in? anyway, he ate.

Thursday

My day was OK, didn't do a good job at bowling, but I have days like that. 117 - 155- 126. I guess that comes out to 133 for the day. I will do much better on Sunday, I always do when I bowl alone. . . . .I stopped by to see Caren and Ron this afternoon, she had me taste some fresh pea salad she had, sure was good and seems easy to make too. I got home in time to fix a small dinner and to watch O'Reilly at 5PM. Tonight my favorite commercials start about 8:00 so I will be up for that, unless I find I like the shows less than the commercials. It is not uncommon for me to turn the TV off in the middle of a show and go to bed and read. That is especially true if it is a movie and the commercials start coming at me every 6 minutes. That is usually my limit.

Wednesday

I enjoyed watching two deer clean up the fallen plums outside my living room window this morning. I was sitting at the table eating breakfast when I first saw them. It was a very peaceful scene. The barometer reading was 977mb when I got up this morning, I can not remember seeing it that low before.
After lunch I decided to sit in front of the TV with milk and cookies. The doggie jumped in my lap because he likes dessert too. I reached for a cookie and hit the glass of milk hard enough to knock it over. Milk was flying all over the chair side table and on to the kitchen floor. ChiChi immediately saw his opening and dived to the floor to lick up the milk. Luckily the cookies were left on the little table. It was at that moment I decided this was the day to mop the kitchen. It is a big area and I took my time. Just as I was finishing and pouring another glass of milk the dog barfed up all the milk he had found on the floor. The bad thing is that he did that on the carpet. It is 1% milk so hopefully it will not make a stain that I can not get out. At least the kitchen floor is clean again, it has been in need of attention for some time. Later today the deer came back and doggie saw her and started getting excited so I opened the door and let him go. He did not chase the deer but walked toward her. She easily hopped the fence and walked away. I noticed about twenty minutes later she had returned. The doggie was back in the house by then.
I  have been shocked by my portfolio downturn, mine has dropped back to where it was in June 2008. That was a bad thing then and no better now. I am just going to stick with it and hope the turnaround comes soon enough to last me for as long as I live. In the meantime I plan on cutting back on the small stuff but the trip to the sunshine this winter is still on if I can find the rates I have been looking for. My two road trips cost me a lot of money this year and the $2200 repair job on the car hurt too. At least that is behind me and if I am careful and the economy starts to turn around soon enough I will be able to make it all up and still go on as I have been. I have been predicting a bad downturn for several years and I still believe the worst is still ahead of us.

Tuesday

I have been enjoying a day of accomplishment, that always helps me feel better. After breakfast I started a load of laundry then got my email caught up before starting in on my monthly bills. While that was going on the washer cycle ended so I switched things to the dryer and continued with the bill paying and cleaning up the kitchen. My checkbook is now in order again and I am ready for another month of easy livin'. The dryer buzzed me so I folded and put away all the stuff. That was all done by 11AM. I then took a horizontal position and began to read. Naturally I fell asleep but that didn't hurt me a bit. I eventually got up and gathered up the doggie for his once in a while bath. I dried him off really well then turned on the electric heater and placed him on his pad in front of it. He was a happy camper and fell asleep right away. I checked on him later and found he was really baking, I turned off the heater, he was very dry. I don't have a lot planned for the rest of the day. Should phone Ron and wish him a happy birthday. [Tomorrow] I suppose he will be 39 again this year.

Monday

My day began by getting up late, 7:10, and rushing around here in an effort to get to the Court House by 8AM. I was about three minutes late but all went well. I was chosen for a one day trial regarding a meth dealing Longview woman. When the bailiff left the room after telling us to choose a Forman the silence was deafening. I waited about 15 seconds before pointing at the lady at the head of the table and told the group we should choose her because she was already sitting in the spot where the Forman sits. She looked embarrassed but said 'thank you', I don't think she meant that in a good way but she was a good sport and ended up being a natural. We never did take a vote. Luckily she had in the past a lot of professional experience with the drug scene and appeared to know more about it than any of the rest of us. She was very good at explaining to the new citizen our system and helped her see things in a legal way. It did not take long in deliberation except for that. The judge came in after the trial and thanked us; he was really looking for volunteers for a 3 week trial that is to start next Monday. I didn't say anything but I would not complain if I get called. I won't know more until I check in again next Monday at 8AM.I did get home at 4:50, just in time for O'Reilly and as soon as that ended I opened the computer for the first time today. Here it is Monday night again, it seems like only two days ago I was watching my Monday night commercials. Time to answer my emails and post my blog.

Sunday

. . I could tell right away this morning that the weather was not going to be great but was surprised to find no rain fell until about 2:30. I had left the house around noon to do some bowling
and after I finished there I went to Safeway. The rain started as I was walking out with a cart full of groceries. It's always something!
Bowling was not as good as the first game indicated but I do know I can do what is necessary to score well. My problem is I forget too often while throwing that darned ball. My scores today were 182-112-107-165-123-110. It worked out to a 133 average. I will keep at it, a year from now I'll be wondering what my problem was. There is a note on my calendar reminding me that on October 6th 2010 I bowled a 136 average. I don't see much improvement, darn it!
I was home in time to catch Seattle football for the last quarter, they had a great opportunity to win with 13 seconds to go but it would have taken a lot more luck than their kicker had going for him this afternoon. I had a snack while watching the game and I plan on using the rest of the afternoon reading. Perhaps this evening I will find a good movie and pop some popcorn.
I forgot to mention that yesterday afternoon ChiChi and I watched a deer walk by our living room window. I was going to have my camera in the house for such an occasion but it was in the car. I guess I need two cameras. Or I could keep my video charged up and sitting here for the next time.

Saturday

The skies around here never did seem to break up today so I just stayed inside and soaked up some NASCAR commercials for a couple of hours then took a much needed [not] nap. I think the temperature got above 60 during the afternoon but that was not enough to get me outside. I gave a walk a short thought this afternoon but that is about all that amounted to. I do know that it is time to start getting more serious about exercising.
I am still working my way through Dostoevsky's IDIOT. It is not too much of an effort but the characters are starting to stack up so that is going to challenge my short memory to a great degree. It could also be lack of attention, I am working on that during this reading. . . . Tomorrow will be bowling practice again and then Monday starts two weeks of Jury duty. My instructions say that three jury trials are to start on Monday, sounds very interesting, I'm looking forward to it.
