. . . .The weather report promised several days with no precipitation but it was snowing here at 10:30. It did not look like it was going to amount to much so I drove into town for some practice bowling. I discovered they were full up until after 2PM so I turned around and drove back home. It was still snowing but I was convinced it could not last long. . . . . This turned out to be a lazy football day. I did talk myself into washing the car. I needed the exercise and the car was beginning to look rather old and worn out. It looked much nicer after the bath and now I have to find the nerve to do the same to the little doggy. He hates bathing and I have to use leather gloves to hold him in place while doing the nasty job. Perhaps tomorrow, or never. Today it was very cool but the sun did come out this afternoon and that made the car washing a bit more acceptable. That is the last time for this year and I would guess the last time until Spring. . . . . .I was pleased enough with today’s bowling results. The first three lines averaged out at 157. I didn’t do as well during the next seven but did end up with a 137.6 for the day. There were a few sprinkles during the day and the temperature was nothing to argue about so I found it sort of acceptable. I enjoyed watching the Syracuse football game today, a lot of snow and cold wind blowing. It sure is nice to be inside and warm while watching those folks suffering the cold. I have been told some people really like the winter weather. It is beyond me to understand such a strange idea. . . . . I was on the phone for about an hour this afternoon attempting to get my bedside heart monitor to operate properly. I think it is now OK. It sent a progress report to the Longview clinic and I will get a ‘results’ report on January 2nd. I almost had myself talked into washing the car today but that never happened, I took a nap instead. . . . . . .ChiChi and I went on a forty minute walk before lunch today. We walked the country road down toward the river. Poor dog got all dirty from the belly hairs down so I am afraid it is about time for his winter bath. We were lucky not to get rained on but the wind was cool enough without it. It certainly was not a slow, leisurely stroll, we moved along at a good clip the whole time. I was pleased to note that I was doing well enough to not stop and catch my breath on the last grade coming back. That is rare for me. In warmer weather I am not so lucky. . . . . I happened to look out the bedroom window when I got out of bed this morning and spotted two deer about 25 feet away enjoying the tasty, wet grass mother nature has so amply supplied around the property. I decided to drive into Longview for another session at the bowling alley. That kind of exercise is more fun than 30 minutes on my stepper machine. I averaged 142 for ten lines, nothing spectacular but it beats my league average. I was home by I:30 and had a light lunch prior to making the short drive to Teigen’s house; I arrived there about 3PM. We had Pizza for dinner then following family tradition we opened Christmas gifts. Of course little Colt, age four plus, had a great time and once the gifts under the tree were all opened we heard a noise on the porch and jumped up to discover that Santa had arrived and left the front porch loaded with more gifts. Mostly for Colt of course. Ron missed the arrival of Santa because he happened to be in the bathroom at the time. Strangely the same thing had happened last year. ChiChi fell asleep next to me on the couch and was snoring loud enough for all to hear. I woke him up about 7PM and we made a rain free drive home. It was another good Christmas. . . . .Bowling was really pretty bad today, I averaged 135 and that is one pin below my league average. We are still tied for third place though. It is strange that a team that performs as poorly as we do is that high in the ratings two weeks into the second half of the season. I am glad I will not be here when the ship hits the sand and we start our fall to the lower spot that we truly deserve. However, my replacement in January just might fire the team up enough to improve our present position. . . . . .We had some snow showers today but none of it stuck. They were very large snowflakes and hit with an almost audible ‘plop’. The temperatures were not low enough to keep them happy. I was inside all day, napping, reading and even getting in another 2,000 steps on my little stepper machine. . . . .This turned out to be a pretty good day. At the bowling alley I experimented the first five lines and averaged a 124. Then when I settled down and used what I think I have learned my average for the second set of five came to 149.6. I will discover Thursday if any of this will still work for me under the pressure of league play. I left the bowling alley at about 2:30 and arrived at Safeway ten minutes later. The clouds were dark and scary looking but I made it inside without getting wet. Twenty minutes later as I left the store I was surprised to see dark blue sky and a quarter inch of snow on everything in sight! Such a surprise. . . . . I watched the Seattle game today. Lots of fun but again very one sided. We had plenty of rain and I stayed home all day trying not to overeat. I did put another two thousand steps on my stepper. As near as I can figure that amounts to about one mile on a slight upgrade. Nothing spectacular but it sure beats no exercise at all and that is what I would be doing without the stepper. . . . . . . Not a whole lot going on today, I did go by the Post Office and since I was so close I stopped by City Hall to say hello to the ladies and wish them a merry Christmas. ChiChi and I drove by the Teigen’s but no one was home. It was only 11:30 by the time we got back to the house and after lunch I did some reading and fell asleep until 3:30. No need to mention that all of this was done with light rain falling. I was able to spot a patch of blue sky at one time this afternoon, that is always nice to see. . . . . This turned out to be a good day, if it did rain. I had lunch with the ‘52’ gang. There were 12 of us there today, not a bad crowd since so many go to warmer climes this time of year. After lunch I found myself in the bowling alley again. My first five gave me an average of 148 and the second set only delivered a 134. The average for the day was 143.5 and that is getting closer to the 150.0 that I want as a permanent average. On the way home I stopped by the Pharmacy for more meds to take with me in January. The time is fleeting by! I find that to be a pleasant thought. . . . . .I left the house at 8:30 to keep my cardiologist appointment at 9AM. She said that according to my records for the past three years my heart has shown no change in its performance. It was functioning at 35-40 percent then and is still doing the same today. I still have two leaking valves and that will not improve but with luck it won’t get a lot worse for a few more years. I have been complaining for months about a bloating condition and she checked me for fluid retention and feels that is not a problem. She scheduled an echo-gram of my abdomen for 2:00 and asked me to return then. I had that taken care of after I went bowling for three hours but the results will not be known until after the person who knows about such things reads the results. The bowling results were not too bad, I experimented for the first 5 lines and got a 120 average. I then applied what I thought I had learned from the experimenting and made a 148 average for the next 5 lines. Since I still had time before returning to the doctors office I bowled two more lines and got a 188 and a 140. My total average for the day was 140 but I feel I am on the right track. I must talk myself into throwing a slower ball with more accuracy, putting muscle into the ball throws off my ability to hit my spot on the floor. The more times I hit that spot the more times the ball goes where I intend it to go. Tomorrow I will meet the gang of ‘52’ for lunch and then return to the bowling alley just to see if I am really just kidding myself. . . . . . Dallas pulled off a great win from behind today, the Bengal’s helped a lot with too many mistakes but that is football. I had phoned the bowling alley earlier to ask about open lanes today and was told again that they would not be available until after 3:30. I spent the day watching football until half time of the Seattle game then I decided they would not need my help in the second half so I drove to the bowling alley. I experimented with a new delivery but it did not show a lot of improvement. My first five games gave me an average of 126 and the second five showed a 132. The average for the day was 121. Not so hot, I must say. I have a Cardiologist appointment in the morning so I may stop by the bowling alley again. . . . . ChiChi and I walked to the river today, the first time since last April when his leg started giving him so much trouble. We had a nice, cool day for a short hike and he seemed to have no trouble with the leg. I think we were gone less than an hour. We did not stay at the river too long because there is not a lot of beauty down there this time of year with the high, dirty water and no leaves on the trees. While walking back to the house I was able to climb the last steep grade with less trouble than I remember having before, that is a good thing. . . . . .The barometer has climbed a notch since yesterday evening and the weather cleared enough for me to work up the energy to drive myself and the doggy over to the Teigen’s for a short visit. Ron felt the need for a short walk; his cows have found a shortcut into the neighbors front yard so we walked down the road looking for the problem. It appears a small tree has fallen over the fence so they have no problem getting out. Cows do that every chance they get. He said he will get at it one day before the snow flies and repair it. . . . . . .I stopped by the lab for my Pro-time blood check before arriving at the bowling alley today. The blood check was a perfect 2.4 and I am to return in 6 weeks, one day before catching the big bird to Mazatlan. My bowling results were awful but that is nothing new, the surprising thing is that out of 22 teams we are in third place. After today I am sure we will be a solid third place. Now I have to begin doing a better job of bowling so we don’t fall behind. . . . . I left the house at 9:15 to make it to my doctor appointment in Vancouver. All is well with my urology report and my next appointment will be a year from now. On the way home I stopped at Burger King in Longview for lunch before stopping by the bowling alley for ten lines. It turned out to be a good day but the first five lines only averaged 130. I buckled down and paid attention the second hour and made a 153 average for five lines. My average for the day was a couple of pins better than my league average so I left feeling pretty good about life. . . . . . I spent a couple of hours bowling today. I averaged 138 for ten lines. On the way home I bought a Tracfone airtime card [actually I bought four 90 day cards] and installed them on my Tracfone. The remarkable thing is that I could have purchased a one year card for $109.00 and gotten the same thing. I purchased four because the price was only $19.99 each. I have discovered that doing it that way lowered my cost for a cell phone to $7.21 per month. Had I purchased the one year card it would be $9.08 per month. . . . . . . More rain today. Melvin phoned me this morning to let me know he had driven into town for a doctors appointment and had taken Tippy, his dog along. The doctor wanted to run some tests that required him to stay the night in hospital so my job was to go get Tippy and take her home. She is now at the house with a full bowl of water and a two days supply of dog food. Roy, Mel’s neighbor, will look in on her tomorrow morning and Mel expects to be home early afternoon. . . . . . I bowled so poorly today that I didn’t even write down the score. I think I bowled 145-126-112= a 126 average. My team is in 4th place though and that is a good thing. Of course it is still early in the season but we have two bowlers who are very good and two with very large handicaps. If the two of us who are not doing so well can improve as the season progresses we can as a team make a pretty good showing. I went looking for a battery for my cell phone today and found none are available. After getting home and working with the darn thing I found I had forgotten that in order to turn the animal on the ‘on’ button must be held down for at least 3 seconds. Anyway, I still have a cell phone. No rain today, some sunshine but it is getting cool as fall moves, in pushing summer aside. I noticed on the weather report that it is about 80 degrees in Mazatlan. . . . . Bill, Melvin and Had a Kentucky Fried Chicken Birthday party this afternoon. Melvin and Bill both had birthdays this month so I supplied the food and drinks for a celebration in Melvin’s garage. Mel had driven into town earlier to pickup the food and Bill, I delivered Bill back home about 4:30 and returned home myself. .. . . . .I met the ‘52’ gang for lunch, only eight of us showed up but the conversation was lively enough to be entertaining. Only Bob and I were left after the tables cleared so we visited for almost an hour before we both decided it was time to get on with our day. I was only a couple hundred yards away from the bowling alley so I stopped in to bowl ten lines. The first five lines created a 126 average and the second five gave me a 142, I was 133.7 for the day. The nice part is that the second five lines were better than the first. I also noticed that the first three games gave me a 153. I sure hope I can repeat that on Thursday. . . . .I had a nice day today, I drove to Canby to visit Jean and Ben for an hour or so. Jean just got back from a couple of weeks in Costa Rica and the sunshine seemed to help her completion, she looks healthy as heck. She is looking forward to starting her chemo therapy Tuesday, mainly to get it over with as soon as possible. On the way I stopped at the Cemetery and left flowers for Ron and Pat, Terrie’s parents. I also stopped by Art Huntington’s marker and paused for a moment in honor of his life. There was plenty of rain during the drive home but that just added to the romance of the road. It was nice being on the highway for a few hours, short as they were. SATURDAY

. . . .I bowled 15 lines today and felt like I could have continued. My average during the first 5 lines was 136, the second 5 was 137 and the third set of five was a 147 average. That came out to 142 for the day and that is above my league average so I feel pretty good about it all. I also did a bit of shopping and got home before 4:30. The temperature was about 45 degrees, OK for a light jacket but just barely. . . . . . . .. We had nice weather today and I got in a twenty minute walk to go with my usual 2,000 steps on my stepper machine. I built myself a very nice hamburger for lunch, had a nap and did lots of reading. . . . . . Few clouds today, mostly clear skies but it was not warm. I only wore a light jacket into town and I am happy to have had it along. . . . . .My guy didn’t win, a lot of people will be glad to hear that, I suppose. I caught up on my sleep this afternoon, cut out one meal because I am putting on too much weight and can not blame it on water retention. ELECTION DAY

. . . . .I got a call at 8AM to help take the boat out of the river. ChiChi and I drove the pickup and trailer to the Camelot riverside park and backed it into the water. Five minutes later the boat was loaded and after getting it strapped down Mel drove us back to his place where my car was parked. We ran into a light rain but that was expected because storm clouds were on the horizon. The balance of the day was spent reading and eating. . . . . .I left the house at 10:40 to do a little shopping before meeting Rick at the bowling alley for lunch. Rick is a member of my team and our scores are about the same so we tried to help each other. That is sort of like a blond leading a blond. We bowled a bunch of practice games and neither one of us did much good. My average for eight lines came out to 129. A poor showing on Monday usually means I will do well on League day so I am waiting for Thursday. Ron and Caren invited me over to their place for dinner so I got there in time to watch O’Reilly with them. Ron and I talked politics, he is a real Democrat and I am definitely not so we had a lot of laughs and a good time. I think neither of us knew what the devil we were talking about most of the time. But that is just fine, we enjoyed it. I got home at 7:30 and now I will post the blog and call it a day. . . . . . .I have no idea where all of the energy came from but I had two loads of laundry done by 9AM. While all of that was going on I cleaned and polished my bowling shoes. The laces are looking worn and I will replace them sometime this weekend. The weather report didn’t say much about rain so I considered washing the car too. I was able to force myself to stay away from that duty for a couple of hours but finally I gave in. The sprinkles started just as I finished putting the hose back on the rack. At 3PM I stopped by Charlotte’s house to take her out to dinner. Charlotte is the lady who introduced me to the local senior bowling club. She has just gotten back from India and I wanted to pick her brain about her trip. She was very happy about the three weeks and now seems to have a ‘travel bug’. It was nice visiting with her after so many months of nothing more than ‘Hi’ at the bowling alley. She had some pictures she shared with me but they were purchased in India, she was sorry she failed to take a camera although her daughter was along so there are pictures available eventually. I was home at 7PM and doggy was happy to see me because I had failed to feed him before I left. Missing a meal didn’t hurt him a bit! I was happy with my third game today when I scored a 171 but I am not pleased with the fact that I did so poorly in the first two games. . . . . I did not notice any rain at all today but I still stayed inside and watched football, NASCAR and the World Series. . . . . .Nothing was accomplished again today. I did my 2,000 steps on the step machine though, so all was not lost. I had a nap and did a lot or reading. . . . . Bowling was not too exciting today but I did get a 141-123-151=138 average. I am afraid that will bring my league average down again but when I went in today it was sitting at 141. . . . . . I was being fat and lazy all morning until my conscience started bothering me about my lack of activity. I loaded ChiChi in the car and drove to the fishing hole for three hours. There were no fish to be caught but the weather was dry enough to read for a couple of hours and cold enough to force me to do a little walking around. The exercise was the best part of the day. MONDAY. . . .I arrived at R&R Motors at 8:30 this morning. Chris made one last attempt to repair that transmission but again failed. He refunded my $824 that I had spent up to this point but refused to admit defeat. The plan now is to leave the car with him while I am in Mazatlan this winter so that he can trace down the electrical problem that is causing the converter to not engage. Electrical problems can take many hours but his plan is to work on it when his time permits. I drove into town again today for another crack at bowling and after ten lines found that my average was the same 145 as yesterday. With a little luck I may be able to do as well on Thursday. I watched the debate this evening and came to the conclusion that it was a tie, very enjoyable to me to see this part of world history coming to life. . . . . I ate some more of that fine spaghetti sauce I had made a few days ago and felt so good afterward that I drove to the bowling alley and averaged 145 for six lines. The amazing thing is that my scores went from a 112 to a 212 during the session. It must have been the spaghetti sauce! I was allowed use of the alley for only an hour because the place was expecting a large party to arrive for a 1PM slot. After leaving there I stopped by the Dollar Store and purchased three more books before getting home to turn on the TV and pig out in front of that for the evening. After watching the Jets lose coming from behind I turned on the Terminator. . . . . . .I had accomplished very little this morning, wondering about going fishing while catching up on my reading when I decided to make my decision for the rest of the day by looking out the window. It was raining. My decision was made, stay home and get fat. It was 11:15. For lunch I prepared a very tasty hamburger and stored three cooked hamburger patties in the freezer for future use. . . . .Doggy and I stayed home all day today. I did give some serious thought to fishing but it just seemed too wet outside to sit at the riverside and put up with the weather. At lunchtime I tried my new batch of spaghetti sauce for the first time. I added cheese and crushed red pepper. It is really good! Again I wasted too much time in front of the TV; so much so that if the weather does not get better I may stop by the bowling alley tomorrow just for the exercise. . . . .. I stopped by the lab for my Protime workup before driving on to the bowling alley at noon. My scores were decent for once: 147-144-153=148. I am working toward a 150 average but at the moment I am back to 140. I glanced at the river as I drove by today and think maybe it might be clean enough to fish tomorrow. I will wait until then to make any rash decisions though. I also want to mention my bowling instructor from last year, Dave Serna. Dave died last night, I have yet to learn the reason but I was told he had donated all of his bowling equipment to the bowling alley a few weeks ago. For that reason I am guessing his health was failing very quickly and he was aware of it. . . . .This was a lazy day, I didn’t try to go fishing because the river is so dirty. I did cook up some Taco Meat and Beans to stock in the freezer, had tacos for lunch, delicious! I attempted to nap but was unable to do so because I am so rested from doing nothing. . . . . . R&R Motors surrendered and will refund my money, they have been unable to solve the transmission problem and it is still operating the same as it was when I took it in to them for repair. However, they do have one more thing they would like to check [a speed sensor] and I have agreed to return the car next week for that to be done. After leaving them around noon I drove into Castle Rock for a shopping stop and noticed on the way home that the tx was performing properly for those few minutes. Very weird, to say the least. This evening I watched the debate [a tie] and did my 2,000 steps on the ‘stepper’ machine I have. There was some effort on my part to eat less today but I have no idea how much weight I might have lost because of it. A few ounces, with luck. . . . . I returned the car to R&R Motors at noon today. Their plan is to repair it this afternoon then keep it overnight so the entire system will be cold when it is next started Tuesday morning. With luck it will be good as new. We shall see, it has been a struggle. On another note. . . .I gave my doggy a bath today with no struggle at all from him. That is the first time in his lifetime that I have been allowed to bath him without being bitten. I have no idea what has changed him but he was a good dog today. I got some exercise doing laundry today, not a lot but anything is good. I also accumulated another 2,000 steps on my ‘stepper’ machine. This evening I will look for a Monday Night Football game and try to stay awake to the end. SATURDAY. . . . .Billy is in the hospital. I visited him for a few minutes today but he does not seem to know how long he might be there. He said he had a bad stomach ache so he called 911 and they brought him in. He told me this morning that he is feeling much better. Since I was so close I stopped by the bowling alley and embarrassed myself by averaging only 125 over ten lines. I am beginning to wonder if perhaps because of my age I have reached my peak. . . . The rain has arrived. It is not yet really cold but wet is bad enough if the wind happens to be blowing. After breakfast this morning I cooked up a pot of what I call spaghetti sauce and left it simmering on the stove while I went to the river for some fishing and reading. The rains came but I did have my umbrella along so it was still comfortable enough to read for a couple of hours. It would not have been comfortable with the wind blowing but I was able to put up with the weather without a lot of trouble. About 2:30 I realized I had left the spaghetti sauce cooking so I had to rush home. I got back in time to save the concoction but it was close. . . . . doggy and I spent two hours at the river today. The weather is turning cold and I lasted just long enough for one day. . . . . . .Had a nice lunch with the guys from the class of ‘52’ today. After lunch I stopped by the bowling alley and knocked down 1335 pins in ten lines. That was disappointing but I usually end up doing better on Thursdays than on practice days so I have a good League session to look forward to later this week. After leaving the bowling alley I drove home via the West Side Hwy and stopped by Four Corners for a couple more fishing lures and some fried chicken. . . . I delivered the car to the shop at 8:30 and they had me home by 9:00. With nothing else to do I washed both inside and outside windows of my place. It really perked things up! Now I will have to get the vacuum out and try that too. Later this afternoon the mechanic called to let me know he thinks he found the problem but it requires a new valve in the transmission. The valve has been ordered but it will be tomorrow before it arrives and he wants to take the time to check it out before installing it. For that reason he put things back together and I drove the car home to wait until he gets things checked out and calls me. At least I have the car for tomorrow when I meet the guys for lunch and practice bowling in the afternoon. SUNDAY. . . It was cold again this morning and while I was waiting for the sun to warm things up prior to going fishing I secured my Mazatlan flight tickets online. The tickets are cheaper than last year by $12 but I have no idea what the baggage charge is going to be. Probably more than enough to make up for the cheaper ticket price. ChiChi and I spent another three hours at the fishing hole today, all for naught unless you add in a nice day and a nap in the sun. I watched a great show on Discovery this evening. It was called Plane Crash. Safety experts purchased a used 727 for half a million dollars, outfitted it with all kinds of cameras and stress recorders then crashed it onto the desert. . . . .It took R&R less than an hour to make the computer swap this morning and now I have a properly operating transmission. The ten percent increase in gas mileage will save me at the pump too. However, the other side of the coin is that it is going to take a lot of gas purchases to offset the $884.00 it cost to make the change. HOWEVER, the story does not end there. After getting home and feeling pretty good about things I prepared to pick up Ron and take him to lunch for his Birthday [today]. As I drove out the drive way onto Pleasant Hill Road I was greeted with an unfixed transmission. The converter was not ‘clicking in’ and the car was acting the same as it had before I had separated from the $884.00. Ron and I had a nice lunch and great conversation and after taking him home I drove back to R&R. Needless to say they were really surprised to see me so soon. The next appointment I could get was for Monday morning. You can be sure I will be there.

. . . . .Did some laundry after breakfast this morning. Turned the mattress end for end also; that was enough exercise for this day. I also drove into town for my weekly bowling league exercise. 132-134-148= 138. I had a handicap of 69 when I arrived but I am sure it will not be so low next time I get into town. SATURDAY . . . . . I didn’t get home too late to post my blog, I was too tired, so I greeted the dog, had my cookies and milk then went to bed. The wedding in Ellensburg was very nice, I, along with five others snapped pictures to our hearts content. The Larsen family, as usual made me feel very welcome and were happy to see me. A couple of them mentioned the pictures I had taken last month at the wedding. Somebody had used them to make a wedding book of printed pictures for the Bride. The festivities started at 2PM and I was in the car heading home by 4:00. The drive both ways was beautiful. The only bleak spot was the light rain I experienced going through Randle. My Tom-Tom GPS told me it would take three hours fifty minutes to get home via Seattle and it was right on the button. I had driven there by way of Yakima, 204 miles. In the next few days I will edit out all of the pictures that I feel don’t pass muster then send the remainder to Katrina and Dave via data CD. . . . . ChiChi and I washed the car today so it is ready to go to Ellensburg in the morning. We also went fishing but didn’t catch anything. It has been almost four months since my last nibble. . . . . Visited Bernita at 10AM for my scheduled haircut then returned to the house for some lunch before driving into town for another shot at bowling. I was happy with the days results 150-136-156=147 average. My handicap at the moment is 70 and I hope that with today’s results I will go to 69. After bowling I filled the gas tank, it took 16.11 gallons. The tank only holds 16 gallons so I don’t know what was going on there. I then visited Wal-Mart for some groceries and more sinkers for fishing, arriving home just in time to feed my doggy at 3PM. . . . . . . I had a nice drive to Beaverton today. I had to go down so they could download whatever information they get from my pacemaker. The lady said I was doing well and still have about five years of battery life left. Getting my battery changed in five years is something to live for. If I had bought dinner ‘out’ I know I would have eaten way too much and I don’t want to do that. I really do want to lose about ten pounds and ordering food out is not a good idea for me. I was at R&R motors again this morning and after a couple of hours I was told the new computer they installed last week is not working properly so they are in the process of locating another one somewhere in the world. They will call when it arrives. In the meantime they did install the new solenoid so perhaps the next time I go in the problem will be solved.. . . .After leaving there I went back to the house for some lunch before driving into Longview to practice my bowling skills. I came out of 15 lines with a 146 average, that helps my opinion of my bowling ability. The secret is to do as well, perhaps, better when Thursday rolls around. The weather is still holding, it is really beautiful around here in September when the rain filled and cloudy skies are not so prevalent. I would like it to remain nice through Saturday because that is the day I am driving to Ellensburg to take picture of the wedding. . . . . . Nothing new today, except perhaps I can report that we enjoyed better weather. The fishing/reading/napping was about the same. Mel caught a small Silver this morning, 10/12 pounds and gave me some of the smoked fish that he had caught a couple of days ago. He has a good recipe, I am not a great lover of smoked fish but this is pretty good. I made the mistake of ‘borrowing’ one of his fishing poles this morning to do some cast and retrieve fishing. I ended up snagging the lure on a submerged log and losing the whole shebang, I paid him ten bucks for the lure. He was more happy finding out about it before he went down there tomorrow morning to go fishing and finding his outfit was missing. I was bad, I should know better than take things that don’t belong to me.

Catching was not so good but who cares when one can enjoy such a nice spot on the river watching Eagles flying by and reading a good book! . . . .. I woke up a bit late this morning so I didn’t get my puter turned on until after 6PM. Just in time to post this blog. I was at R&R Motors at 8:30 and after they installed the new computer in the car they discovered that it made no difference in the converter locking in. He spent another couple of hours searching out the problem and has determined that perhaps a new solenoid might be needed in the transmission. A new one was ordered but it had to come from Portland so there would not be enough time left in this day to make the switch. Therefore I am to return at 8:30 AM Monday to install the new solenoid and switch back to the original computer. Hopefully it will work with the original computer, that will save me several hundred dollars. What do you think the chances are of that happening?. . . I was back at the house at 11am and had lunch before jumping in the car with my doggy and book to spend three more hours fishing. I know of two that were caught early this morning but nothing was biting while I was there. The weather is turning cool and I even had to use the windshield wipers while making the short trip. It never rained hard but the breeze was cool enough to make it easy to decide to come home at 3:30. . . . . .I have no idea where the energy came from but this morning I actually spent an hour doing housework and vacuuming. The kitchen is all sparkly and the bathroom is ready for company. I did not do any dusting though so when I do get around to that I will have to vacuum again. Christmas might be a good time to do that.. . . I am happy with my bowling results today, especially since I improved with each game: 121-153-172=148 average. That is very close to what I expect to do on a regular basis. I am now contributing to the team and that is a good thing. . . . I stopped by the market on the way home to stock up on groceries and arrived back at the house in time to feed the dog at 3PM. . . . . Spent four more hours at the river today. No fish but at least this time I took my book. The weather is holding and that makes me a happy boy! R&R Motors phoned this evening and told me the computer for the T-bird has arrived from Philadelphia and I have an appointment for Friday morning to have it installed. I didn’t ask if it is new, rebuilt or used. I will find that out Friday when I arrive, not that it will make any difference, I am going to have the work done anyway. . . . .I got my laundry caught up this morning and decided to count that as ‘exercise’. After lunch I took doggy to the river for some fishing. We didn’t catch anything but we saw a boat drifting by that held up a 15-16 pounder for us to take a look at. I had forgotten to take my book and my fish eggs so we were fishing with dry lures but that is not at all unusual with these fish. We were home by 3:30 and fed ChiChi and myself. The rest of the day was wasted in front of the TV except I did get in 2,000 steps on the Mini-Stepper I have behind my recliner. . . . . I arrived at the Eagles Club about 9AM and found most all of the gang was way ahead of me. A bunch of chow hounds I guess. Breakfast was served shortly after I found a table that still had an empty chair. They loaded us up on French toast, scrambled eggs and sausage. Orange juice was also available and coffee for those who required the stuff. A good time was had by all and afterwards a few of us drove to the football stadium to view the High School Sports [Football] Museum. It was nice that a part of the stadium was set aside for all of the memories. . . . .I was home by 11:30 and had the dog at rivers edge by noon. Didn’t catch anything but got caught up on my reading. I am almost certain I slept for some time too. This was another fantastic day for being down there, I would recommend it to any and all! . . . .. . . I arrived at the Eagles Club at 10AM and the gang was all there. We got a lot of work done in a short time and even had the tables set, ready for dinner. I left around noon and drove to the bowling alley to try my luck. I had a couple of bad games but after thinking about it I improved pretty well by the tenth. My average was my average= 133.7. I was home by 3PM to feed the doggy and relax in front of the boob tube until it was time to get ready for the Reunion Dinner at 6PM.. . . . I left the house about 5PM and got to the reunion shortly after. It turned out to be the best Class Reunion I can remember ever attending. I really felt good meeting so many people who remembered me from such a long time ago. It makes me wonder what the next one will be like. I will be ready! Got home about ten PM and the doggy was there to greet me and try to convince me that he had not been fed but it didn’t work. I had fed him earlier so he was just out of luck. . . . .Beautiful day, I will return to the river tomorrow but I went bowling this afternoon. I was very happy with 168-137-152. I believe this is the first time I have ever done well on Monday and proceeded to do even better on the following Thursday. I ended up being the top scorer on my team today, that is a refreshing change! After bowling I went shopping and bought a new ironing board cover, a tank of gas and five bags of groceries. WEDNESDAY. . . I phoned Comcast today to find out why my bill has increased $15 per month. I got a bunch of gobbledygook explaining that everyone’s rate had increased. Has yours? There was not a sign of fish to be seen. The weather was nice and things were quiet except for a few boats who buzzed by. Tomorrow is going to be nice day too but I will be bowling. TUESDAY.. . .. I got my car back this morning but I have to wait a week until a new computer arrives from Philadelphia before it is repaired. The present computer is not allowing the converter to ‘lock up’ like it is supposed to. For that reason my gas mileage is down about 10 percent and the RPM indicator swings all over the place [within 100-200—rpms] while I am driving. It could cost up to 600 dollars to get it fixed but I feel the car is worth it. Selling it and buying another used car would be silly. I will get a new Cadillac as soon as I win the Lottery. I washed the car for the first time in weeks and I reckon that will cause a big rainstorm to hit this area shortly.. . . . I met the gang for lunch today, that went well and I have agreed to meet them at the Eagles Hall Saturday morning to help prepare the place for the 60th Class Reunion that evening. After leaving the restaurant I stopped by the bowling alley and came away from there feeling very pleased. For ten lines I averaged 152.1 and my best line was 192. Things are looking up! MONDAY. . .. .I delivered the Tbird to the repair shop this morning so the transmission anomaly could be repaired. There was a lot of fog during the drive at 8:15 but by the time they had delivered me back to the house the sun was out in all of it’s glory. I forced myself to walk the 2,000 steps on my mini-stepper after lunch. I have failed to do that only once since getting the little monster. It is good exercise and will really pay for itself when the rains begin. Lucky Terri is walking around Diamond Head each morning for her exercise. She gets all of the good stuff. . . . .The repair shop phoned to let me know I may not get my car back in time to meet the gang of ‘52’ for lunch tomorrow. It appears the ‘computer’ is not allowing the converter to lock up so it could end up costing a lot more than I was hoping for. Most things do so I suppose that is not news. I would not be happy missing the lunch but I also was planning to do some practice bowling afterward. Just have to wait until tomorrow to see how things go. They said they would call me early and let me know what they have decided and if they can get the parts. . . . .I received a short note from Terri this morning letting me know that she is getting on the big bird tomorrow to begin her winter vacation in Hawaii. I counted eight Guide boats heading toward the Castle Rock Landing after 2:30. That tells me there were about 30 fishermen [at least] down stream from me pulling them in. I saw no proof that they caught anything and really believe there were not many biting today. . . . . .No fishing today, I decided to ride to Canby with the Teigen’s to attend the Dahlia Festival. I have been there several times but never have I seen such a crowd. I took a lot of pictures of many pretty flowers and got a few of Colter too. We got home about 6:10 just in time for me to watch the last half of the NASCAR race while enjoying a bowl of popcorn. I phoned the bowling alley to confirm that they will be open tomorrow so I plan on getting in a practice session. . . . . .Went fishing again today with no results other than getting exercise hauling some stuff up from the river to get it in out of the rain that is bound to start falling one of these days. The things I removed from the sitting area were the tools that I had used when laying the paving stones. Roy, my landlord stopped by with Lexy, his dog while I was down there. He was one of the many men who ran a dredge machine in the Cowlitz right after the mountain blew so many years ago. He left for home about 2:30 and ChiChi and I followed a few minutes later. . . . . . . A cloudy day, I spent a minute on housework before breakfast; I then waited for the mood to strike that might cause me to go fishing. That came a few minutes after 11AM so I loaded the dog in the car and left. For all of the good it did me. I did read for a while and attempted to enjoy the quiet but a couple of guide boats kept buzzing by so that idea was a flop. In all honesty it turned out to be a nice day, sans fish. We stayed out for four hours until we both got hungry, I had been eating blackberries and that held me for a while. Crazy dog eats blackberries too but this year he waits for me to pick them. Last year he was picking his own if they were close enough to the ground to reach. We got home and had a snack while watching the Republican convention. ….. Yesterday after bowling when I went to the counter to pay the manager told me that the day’s bowling was on the house. That pleased me very much, of course and today when I took Terri to lunch I discovered that she wished to pick up the tab. I felt very lucky and blessed. Tomorrow I am going to stop by the Cadillac dealership in town to see how well he responds to my lucky charm, whatever it is. Terri and I had a nice lunch, we spent all afternoon eating and visiting. Terri is starting her winter in Hawaii early this year so she is going to be leaving town next week shortly after her family reunion at crooked River, Oregon this weekend. The big bird is going to fly her away again. Last year she was here until November and our parting did not bother me as much then because I knew I was going to Mazatlan in a few weeks. This time it will be months before I leave for the winter. Woe is me…..The drive home was nice this evening, I even experienced the outcome of the 20% chance of rain today. . . . . . I was supposed to pick up my new glasses today so I also went bowling while in town. The bowling was fine, I averaged 152 over ten games. The low game was 109 and the high was 207. I thought the previous back trouble may get in the way but I am happy to say that was not a problem. I did notice that my broken toe was giving me fits because the Scholl's shoe inserts that I had purchased for my bowling shoes two years ago have bitten the dust. After leaving the bowling alley I bought new inserts and stopped by the optometrist for my glasses. It is very strange but they are still not right and have to be sent back again for another try. That means another week without the best possible eyesight. I am happy that the problem is not bad enough to cause headaches but the pain in the butt is almost as difficult to accept. After leaving there and stopping by Sears to pick up a Mini-Stepper I had ordered I drove to Castle Rock to visit with Ron and Caren for a while. Ron was getting a lot of exercise cleaning out the old barn they have on the property, I am happy he is doing it and not me. I then drove home and fed the dog. I also put the Mini-Stepper to good use for a half hour or so while Chichi sat back and watched. It is good exercise and I am happy to have it available since I don't seem to get out walking like I should.

. . . . Today’s entry could be a copy of yesterday except there was no NASCAR. I did talk to Pepik this morning, he phoned me via Skype from Prague so he could practice his English. . . . . .Mel and I took my car to Olympia today to visit with the ‘Cousins’ at lunch time. It was a nice visit but we were both sorry that Coya did not attend. She is the one who set it all up and at the last minute was unable to be there. Life is like that at times. We were home by 3:30, me to feed my dog and Mel to run some errands before taking the boat out for some evening fishing. He has reported that the river is down even more than last time I was there so perhaps tomorrow I will try my luck. Ken said two more days and they will arrive, Mel reports that over two thousand were counted at the Bonneville Dam yesterday. It can’t be much longer! I hope!….I received a nice note from Natalia today. The summer weather has been acceptable and she said that the rain I thought was heavier than usual was really not. I have been following the satellite picture for the Mazatlan area and it looked like a lot of wet weather. She has been feeling well and working 23 hours a day. I exaggerate, of course. She is getting along well with her new director. That is important. . . . . .I made no effort to go fishing today because although my back was better I felt it best to not push things too much. As the day wore on I found that the pain returned and even though the weather turned out great I was glad I stayed inside. I did walk to the mailbox to mail a card to Terri but that was the total of my exercise for the day. I will apply some more Hot and Icy this evening; it helps a lot. …….I visited my optometrist this morning to verify that my complaint had merit.  The new lenses were manufactured with the wrong prescription in the right side. They failed with the prism value. A new lens is to be made and picked up next week. In the meantime I will continue seeing two headlights on motorcycles and four headlights on automobiles. I finally remembered pulling a muscle in my back several days ago and attribute that to my present discomfort; enough so that I am not planning on going to the fishing hole for a while. I hope to be feeling well enough to attend the first day of winter bowling on Thursday. I am comfortable sitting in front of the TV but that can’t last long. A couple hundred channels to choose from and over a thousand movies just can’t keep me happy. I am catching up on my reading though. And the afternoon nap today was welcome too.

. . . . . .Raining this morning, or misting; take your pick. In any case it was wet and cool. The roads were wet when I drove in to the bowling alley but by the time I came home things were bright and cheerful. Except for my bowling: I averaged my average of 133 for six lines. I would have bowled longer but for some reason my back was killing me and I though six lines was enough. I was surprised I maintained my 133 average. After bowling ChiChi and I drove to the Teigen’s to deliver some magazines and visit for a while. Caren served us all [Ruby, Colter, Ron and I} a bowl of ‘dirt and worms’. Tasted very good. Chocolate pudding and graham crackers mixed together with gummy worms crawling through it. I ate only half a worm, they are too sweet for my liking. ChiChi had a good time and allowed Ron to pet him at one point. He also pooped on their kitchen floor. I can’t take that dog anywhere. I spent the evening with a heat pad on my back. It did not seem to help. Lets see what tomorrow may bring.

. . . .I had my car out of the shop early enough to make it to bowling with no trouble. The bowling itself was very bad, I averaged only 128 for the three games. My coordination was way off, couldn’t seem to do anything right. Next week starts Winter League, I hope I can show some improvement between now and next spring. . . .  Very nice weather today, it got up to 85 degrees in my place [I don’t have AC] and I handled it well. Tomorrow is to be as nice, it’s about time!

. . . .. By 9AM I had taken my car up the hill to R&R for transmission servicing and oil change. Ray drove me home and promised to call as soon as the work was finished. I waited all day to start the laundry, I did not want the washing machine or dryer to be running while I was not home. They called about the car at 4:15 and told me it would not be ready until tomorrow morning. They promised I could have it in time to get to the bowling alley and that was all I needed it for so I didn’t complain. I did get the laundry done, folded and put away by 6:15.  We enjoyed a nice warm day around here today, I hope it lasts for at least another 4 months. After that I will be I Mazatlan, if all goes well.

. . . . Had lunch with the gang of ‘52’ at noon then stopped by the bowling alley. I bowled 143 average for ten lines. I would have bowled more but I thought the 143 was about as good as it was going to get today so I quit and went to Wal-Mart. I picked up my new lenses for my glasses today, I am not happy with them but the lady behind the counter said I will get used to the new strength in a day or so. I hope that is the case because right now I would do better with the old lenses. I got home around three PM and fed the old dog. He didn’t eat though. I usually put cheese chunks on his food and today I failed to do that. After I fixed my own snack, including cheese I added a little to his meal and then everything was fine again. Dumb dog.. . . .I forgot to mention that I saw my first Bald Eagle of the season yesterday. He was not as large as the one last year  but still a beautiful sight!

. . . .I accomplished nothing today. ChiChi and I spent four hours at the fishing hole reading and enjoying the cool river breeze. We watched a boat drifting by hook into a salmon and pull it aboard. It was pulled in on the opposite side of the boat from us so there was no way to tell how large it was. It was not a quick catch so I am guessing it was a bit hefty. We left about 4PM and headed home for a much needed shower and some dinner.

. . . .ChiChi and I spent part of the afternoon at the fishing hole again. Mel was there and we visited until 3PM but I became hungry and we left about that time to get home to some dinner. The weather was warm today but it was nice in the shade next to the river. There was a lot of traffic on the water, inner tube riding and lots of kayaks. A couple of guys were fishing but I was surprised there were not more. The water seems clearer so perhaps we will try again tomorrow.

. . . . . . The dog and I spent three hours at the fishing hole today. I saw a couple of guide boats with fishermen aboard but saw no fish. I did a little reading and generally enjoyed the cool breeze. I doubt the temperature reached 75 at riverside. It was relaxing, the river still leaves a bit to be desired as far as clearness is concerned but it is fishable.

. . . . Things went well at the bowling alley today, 147-154-164=155. That is one of the best league days I have ever had. Now I have to keep it up! After bowling I stopped by the Teigen’s for a visit. Ron was busy in the yard with the leaf blower but took a break for a few minutes. Caren and Colt had gone into town this afternoon so I was unable to say hi to them. I only stayed a few minutes because I had not left the door open for ChiChi and wanted to get home before he had a fit in the house all by himself. He was hungry by the time I arrived but it was time to be hungry, I feed him each day at about 3PM. The temperature never reached 80 around here today. It was a nice day to be fishing but the river is still a mess. The Toutle River is causing all the trouble, it looks like a river of concrete. The powers that be are working on the silt dam and causing a lot of the silt to head for lower elevation.
